Would you like to walk out and grab all the produce you need for a fabulous meal from your own back yard? What ever the size or type of space you have available, it can be transformed. Gardens dug and planted, planters rehabilitated, container gardens, veggies harvested, recipes shared, & monthly or seasonal maintenance can be provided.

Formal kitchen gardens or basic farm style rows, we can find a style that fits your space and sensibilities.  Green Acres will help you design your idea of the perfect urban farm – kitchen gardens, butterfly gardens, salsa gardens, salad bowl gardens…let’s plant what you already love and we can grow your repertoire from there. We are starting heirloom variety seeds, hard to find and unusual. Seeds from around the country and around the world. Seeds that are pure and wholesome and not engineered to ripen in trucks and are subsequently flavorless. Check the index in the right margin for plants lists, seasonal planting ideas and garden suggestions.

Grow your own. It’s good for your family, it’s good the planet, it’s good for your taste buds.  Your very own home grown!

What we provide:

Excavation and Installation:
Is the best sunny spot in your yard devoted to the lawn? We will come in and remove the lawn and soil, replace it with a good planting mix and you’re ready to plant.

Raised Beds:
If you would prefer raised beds, we can build those too. There are several height options, including a set up for wheelchair access.

Patio and Containers:
If you have pots, great. We can also bring them in…large enough for trees, tomatoes, beans on willow cages…Roof tops, side yards, decks – these areas are all potential meals – delicious, fresh and the epitome of local.

Plant Selection:
Let’s talk about how you eat and how you’d like to eat. What kinds of food can you grow and what season to grow it. Eating seasonally enables you to eat locally.

Composting:
Yes! We can help set up and use your bins…Worm composting is an incredible source of nutrients for your vegetables. In Long Beach you can have several types of bins delivered to your house on trash day, and they just add it to your bill.

Now that you have a vegetable garden there will be a lot of nutritious plant material to fill the bins. This is the circle of life, it’s an amazing process and everything is better when you follow the natural order of things. There are links on the site for several composting options.
